Zachary Winkler is hoping that in his bar mitzvah year, his annual Do Something Sweet fundraiser will bring in $10,000 for the SickKids Foundation.

Each year, the 12-year-old invites people to visit his Thornhill, Ont. driveway at 81 Ramblewood Lane for cotton candy, inflatable games, face painting and more. Last year, he reached more than $9,000, but he’s hoping that this year he’ll hit his $10,000 goal.
Over the years, he’s raised almost $30,000 total from his Do Something Sweet fundraisers.

He’s hopeful the money he raises will be enough to buy a Snoezelen Therapy Machine, which uses lights, music and pictures to distract patients who are undergoing medical treatments.

“With the flick of a switch, the walls are bathed in brilliant colours, the ceiling dances with spaceships and a song echoes through the room,” a SickKids statement explained.

Winkler’s seventh annual fundraiser takes place on Nov. 4 from 3 to 5 p.m.
