The second edition of the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation-YM-YWHA Hockey street hockey tournament is set for May 19-20. Five rinks next to the Y for the Sunday Youth Tournament will see play for three divisions for kids ages 13-20. On Monday, the adult (ages 21-34) and seniors (35+) tournaments take over. POLISH REP VISITS JPL
Andrzej Szydlo, Poland’s consul general to Montreal, visited the Jewish Public Library last month for a Canada Council Reading by Eva Stachniak, author of The Winter Palace, a novel based on the Russian empress Catherine the Great. It was the first time a Polish consul visited the JPL and it was seen as a major step forward in local Jewish-Polish relations.
Dr, André Dascal was recently named Jewish General Hospital’s chief of infectious diseases. Dascal has served at JGH for 26 years. His current areas of research include C. difficile, diagnostic molecular biology, and readiness for infectious disease outbreaks… Veteran community leader Thomas Hecht and wife Riva were cited with congressional and municipal proclamations in Sarasota, Fla, for lifelong work in Israel advocacy and remembering the Holocaust.
