ISRAELI-ARAB AUTHOR

The Jewish Public Library hosts Israeli-Arab journalist, author and TV personality Sayed Kashua, 7 p.m. for a Hebrew-language evening devoted to his appreciation of Hebrew and Jewish-Arab relations. An episode of the satirical sitcom he created, Arab Labour, will also be screened. The next evening, March 18 at 7 p.m., Kashua, a columnist for Ha’aretz, speaks in English, about his award-winning novel Second Person Singular. MEETINGS WITH BOOKS

A one-day McGill University Library symposium for scholars and librarians devoted to the “21st century library” and in tribute to the late McGill professor, Raymond Klibansky, begins 9:30 a.m. at the Faculty Club ballroom, 3450 McTavish St. Klibansky died in 2005 and bequeathed more than 7,000 works to McGill that are on exhibit until August at the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec. BLOOD CLOT PREVENTION

Jewish General Hospital is reporting an often “perfect or near perfect” record in preventing potentially life threatening venous thromboembolisms (VTE) in patients. The JGH was among the first in Canada in determining clot risk. Last year, the hospital joined Sanofi Canada in creating an excellence centre to provide leadership and guidance to other institutions in preventing VTEs, the third-most-common condition (after heart attacks and strokes) burdening the entire health care system.
