JGH one of Montreal’s top employers
MONTREAL — The Jewish General Hospital (JGH) has been named one of the best places to work in Greater Montreal, according to an annual competition to find the city’s 25 top employers.
The 2013 winners were selected from more than 2,000 applicants, following a detailed review of their operations and human-resource practices. The competition, now in its ninth year, judged eight key areas: physical workplace, work and social atmosphere, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and other time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement.
“This competition speaks volumes about the JGH’s commitment to its staff in that they are provided with a healthy, supportive and productive work environment,” said Beverly Kravitz, director of human resources and legal affairs at the JGH.
“The JGH undertakes numerous initiatives focused directly on employees’ well-being, and this award is a recognition of these efforts and will hopefully serve as a beacon to those looking to work in the health-care industry.”
Among the reasons why the JGH was chosen as a top employer is that it provides maternity and parental leave top-up payments to employees who are new mothers or fathers (including adoptive parents), supports ongoing employee development with a range of in-house and online training programs, career planning services, formal mentoring and tuition subsidies for job-related courses, and helps employees achieve work-life balance through a variety of alternative work arrangements.
JGH executive director Hartley Stern said: “Anything that makes the JGH a more satisfying place to work can only mean better care for our patients and more dynamic involvement by the JGH with its partners across Quebec to keep strengthening the health-care system. As has always been the case, we will continue to find new ways of keeping staff satisfaction levels rising.”
The Montreal’s Top Employers competition is held in conjunction with the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, and in partnership with the Gazette.
