Charity basketball tournament aids at-risk youth
The sixth annual Hoops 4 Israel charity basketball tournament will take place Sunday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kimel Family Education Centre at 9600 Bathurst Street in Vaughan.
The tournament will feature three-on-three, half-court, round-robin play that makes for fast-paced, competitive games and great entertainment for everyone involved.
Funds raised will go to programs that support at-risk youth in Israel, such as the Zipori Educational Warm House and the Living Bridge Partnership.
In addition, some of the money raised will benefit underprivileged youth in Toronto, giving children the chance to have access to summer programs through the JCC Chai Sports Scholarship Fund and the Centre Camp Scholarship Fund.
Hoops 4 Israel is sponsored by the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and is administered by Community Connect, federation’s young adult engagement division. The event relies on the collective efforts of dozens of player participants, corporate sponsors, community organization partners and private donors. Since its founding in 2007, Hoops 4 Israel has raised more than half a million dollars.
