Members of Canada’s Jewish community and pro-Israel supporters are once again hopeful that International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge might honour the victims of the Munich Massacre, this time at the London Games’ closing ceremonies this Sunday.

That hope was kindled yesterday by Liberal MP for Mount Royal, Irwin Cotler, who sent out a last-minute appeal to the IOC in an Aug. 9 letter to Rogge.

In it, Cotler simultaneously excoriates Rogge for a perceived act of anti-Semitism, while imploring him to reverse his decision not to hold a minute of silence for the 11 slain Israeli athletes and coaches at the 1972 Munich Games.
