TORONTO — The Zareinu Education Centre will hold its 14th annual Moveathon Festival and Moveathon Ride in June.

Funds raised are for the programs the centre offers – special education and individualized therapies for children with physical and developmental challenges.

The Zareinu Moveathon Festival, on Sunday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., will transform Downsview Park into a centre of fun that includes  food, mechanical and inflatable rides, a ferris wheel, a carousel and carnival games. There will be a 65-foot inflatable obstacle course and wagon rides.

The festival’s sporting events include a two-kilometre walk, a five-kilometre and 10-kilometre run, the 20-kilometre Ell Monson Simpson Family Ride, and the 20-kilometre girls and boys bike rides. Admission to the park is free, and participants in the sporting events are asked to raise a minimum of $250.

The Zareinu Moveathon Ride for Kids with Special Needs, on Sunday, June 26, is a long-distance cycling experience of either 162.5 kilometres, 100 kilometres or 50 kilometres. The cycling route, which starts and ends at Bishop Reding Secondary School in Milton, Ont., will take experienced cyclists along the beautiful Niagara Escarpment.

There will be drink and food stops along the route, as well as professional cyclists riding along to offer their encouragement and support vans.

For riders over 18, the minimum fundraising requirement is $1,000, and for riders under 18 the minimum fundraising requirement is $500. All participants will receive a custom Louis Garneau jersey and a Zareinu Ride gift pact.

There are two pre-registration and bike inspection days for this event –  on Wednesday, June 22, and Thursday, June 23, from 5 to 9 p.m., at 4630 Dufferin St., Suite 301. A bike inspection is courtesy of The Bike Depot.

Post-ride massages will be offered, as well as a barbecue at the finish line.
