MAHALIA MUSICAL
The Mahalia Jackson Musical, dedicated to the legendary “Queen of Gospel” and civil rights activist, begins its run through March 24 with 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. shows at the Segal Centre. The musical, the perfect vehicle for star Ranee Lee, is written and directed by Roger Pierce and presented by the centre and Copa de Oro Productions. $21 MILLION FOR CANCER
Quebec is giving $10 million over four years and the private sector $11.1 million for a project called Personalized Medicine Partnership for Cancer (PMPC). Its goal is to develop an integrated individual patient-based approach to cancer treatment to improve outcomes. The project’s “clinical driver” is the Quebec Clinical Research Organization of Canada, co-founded by the Jewish General Hospital’s Segal Cancer Centre and co-directed by Segal Centre director and oncologist Gerald Batist. Montreal biotech firm Caprion Proteome is leading the project in partnership with Onozyme Pharma, Pfizer Canada, Sanofio Canada and Telus Health GP.
