Syria fires on Israeli military vehicle, Israel returns fire

Syria fired on an Israel Defense Forces jeep, the third time Israeli positions have been targeted this week.

The army jeep was damaged in the incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning. Following the incident, the IDF returned fire using precision missiles. A direct hit on the source of the fire was reported, according to a statement from the IDF spokesman.

The IDF has lodged a complaint with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, a peacekeeping force that was established in 1974.

The Syrian military said in a statement issued Tuesday that its military destroyed an Israeli military vehicle and those in it that it says crossed the ceasefire line in the Golan Heights.

Earlier this week, Israeli troops manning a border observation point in the Golan Heights were fired on twice, on Sunday and Monday. Israeli troops did not retaliate, but lodged a separate complaint with the U.N. observer force.

Also on Tuesday, Israel transferred an injured Syrian national from the border to a hospital in northern Israel where he had surgery to treat shrapnel wounds.
